ABOUT

Our History

City of Stoke Lacrosse Club was founded in 2012 as a way to ensure students within the Stoke area were able to continue playing lacrosse beyond their university experiences. Founder Shane Hall's vision was to create a team of local residents backed up by the students at both Staffordshire University and Keele University. Thus the club was born and a mens team was entered into the North England Men's Lacrosse Association (NEMLA) leagues.

The team's colours were created from the colour combination to be found on Shane Hall's car at the time - a lovely yellow vehicle with a black and white roof!

The club is affectionately known as the Miners due to the rich mining history through Stoke as a city, but also the wider Staffordshire and Derbyshire area.

In 2015, the club made the leap into women's lacrosse and the women's section we see today was formed. Since its inception the women's team have competed in the North Women's Lacrosse Association leagues.

From 2012 until 2019, the club's home ground was based at Staffordshire University. The women's team played at Denstone College from 2017 until 2019. In 2019, the whole club made the move to JCB World Headquarters, and in 2021 made the move to Sudbury Hall where our home grounds are now located.
